SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers: Free $100 Tourism Vouchers for Singaporeans

Good news fellow Singaporeans! SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers as a form of tourism credits for Singaporeans, has just been officially announced.

From December this year, Singaporeans aged 18 and above will be given $100 worth of vouchers to spend on local attractions, Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing announced at Jurong Bird Park on Wednesday morning (Sept 16).

Previously on Aug. 17, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat had announced that S$320 million has been set aside for tourism credits that Singaporeans can use to explore attractions.

The SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers released this month are the tourism credits.

SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers: What is the SingaporeDiscovers Voucher Scheme?

The vouchers initiative is part of the Government’s efforts to revive local tourism, which has been hit by the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions.

It complements the $45 million SingapoRediscovers marketing campaign, which was launched in July to encourage locals to holiday at home and support local businesses.

SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers: How much Voucher will be given?

Each Singapore citizen aged 18 years and above in the year 2020 will receive S$100 worth of SingapoRediscovers Vouchers, according to a press release by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

About $320 million worth of vouchers will be given out. Adult Singaporeans are given $100 in digital vouchers each and these come in denominations of $10.

On top of that, the government will also provide a S$10 subsidy for child/youth tickets for attractions and tours.  Each SingapoRediscovers Vouchers user is eligible to purchase up to six child/youth tickets at subsidised prices for the duration of the scheme.

SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers: When will we receive the voucher?

Even though exact date has not been announced, the scheme is planned to start in December 2020, with implementation of the digital redemption of these vouchers expected by December 2020 as well.

SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers: Who is Eligible for the Voucher?

All Singaporeans aged 18 and above this year are eligible for the vouchers.

For those under 18, adult Singaporeans will be able to purchase up to six subsidised tickets for attractions and tours – each at $10 off – for them. Permanent residents will not be eligible for the vouchers.

SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers: Voucher Redemption Period

The vouchers can be redeemed starting from Dec. 2020 to end-June 2021.

SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers: How to redeem the Vouchers?

They will be accessible via SingPass from December and can be used to offset ticket purchases and hotel stays until the end of June next year.

STB said the redemption of vouchers “will adopt a digital mode by default”, but it will provide support for those who have difficulties using such methods. FIVE booking platforms have been picked to offer redemption services for SingapoRediscovers Vouchers under a government scheme.

More details will be announced in November. 

Update: The Singapore Tourism Board has confirmed that the SingaporeDiscovers Voucher will be distributed digitally via SingPass.

SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers: Where can the vouchers be used?

They can be used at all licensed hotels, leisure attractions and for local tours by operators that have received approval from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) to reopen or resume.

In summary, it may be used to purchase tickets for attractions and tours as well as for accommodation bookings at licensed hotels.

There are currently 214 hotels, 40 attractions and 438 tour itineraries that have been given the green light to resume operations.

These include Universal Studios Singapore, Jewel Changi Airport’s Canopy Park, as well tours of Pulau Ubin and Kampong Glam.

Update: The Singapore Tourism Board has confirmed that vouchers are only intended for personal use. It will come in denominations of S$10, and users can decide how much of the SingapoRediscovers Vouchers to use for each of their purchases.

SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers cannot be used at retail and F&B merchants.

SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers: Can the vouchers be resold?

No, as reported by AsiaOne, the Singapore Tourism Board has confirmed that the SingaporeDiscovers travel vouchers must be used for their intended purposes so that usage can be tracked and abuses such as fraud and resale can be avoided.

SingaporeDiscovers Vouchers: Attractions Operating Hours and Capacity

From Sep. 18, attractions that have received approval to resume operations can apply to STB to increase their operating capacity from 25 per cent to up to 50 per cent.

This is subject to the approval by the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI).

Attractions can also apply to STB to scale up the capacity at outdoor shows to a maximum of five zones, with 50 people per zone, subject to the implementation of safe management measures.

STB will continue to conduct enforcement checks to ensure that attractions can implement the necessary safe management measures effectively with even larger capacity limits.
