Founder Bak Kut Teh facing risk of shutdown, offering dine-in customers 30% Off promotion
Founder Bak Kut Teh second-gen boss, Nigel Chua, 45, has issued a plea on social media for help as business has been so poor for the homegrown chain Founder Bak Kut Teh due to Covid-19 and the circuit breaker.
Founder Bak Kut Teh has offered a 30% off Dine-In Promotion at selected outlets as a last resort to entice customers to visit their restaurants to avoid shutting down the business.
In his open letter, Nigel calls the current period “the most difficult crisis we have ever met”. He details that business for Founder’s three outlets have dropped by over 85 percent for the past five months, and the chain is now struggling to make ends meet.
“In this last attempt to save our brand, we will give over 30% off curated sets for dine-in customers from 17 July to 17 August at selected outlets. This special discount is to thank you for your support during Circuit Breaker (we couldn’t have lasted this long without you) and to encourage you and your family to dine with us.”
The letter appealing for the public’s help said it is giving a 30 per cent discount for dine-in customers from July 17 to Aug. 17 as a show of appreciation.
Founder Bak Kut Teh is a favourite among many celebrities, with even Mandopop King Jay Chou showing up unannounced at its Balestier outlet last August.
The boss at Founder Bak Kut Teh continued in its appeal by mentioning “If we don’t turn around in the next two months, we will need to shut down. We sincerely seek your support to save our brand, the jobs of our employees and our heritage.”
To attract more local customers, Founder Bak Kut Teh is now offering “over 30% off curated family set menus from July 17 to August 17 at Founder Bak Kut Teh Hotel Boss, Bugis and Downtown East outlets”.
